aqua-lec is part of the gas-elec group, a successful franchisor that currently carries out 100,000 gas and electrical safety inspections annually, often in bulk for major clients. Those major clients spend some £35 million a year on plumbing and heating problems.
aqua-lec offers the complete range of plumbing services and installations for home owners and landlords and is a proactive business rather than a reactive 24/7 emergency service. aqua–lec has the expertise, experience and backing of gas-elec in launching and running a successful franchise business. Started in 1996, gas-elec is the only company to train and provide one engineer for testing gas and electrical equipment and gas installations in one visit; the company now has over 110 franchisees working in a potential £2billion marketplace. Its established infrastructure and experienced head office team underpin aqua-lec, freeing franchisees from call handling, invoicing, credit control, bookkeeping, regional marketing, PR and administration, and creating much more time for franchisees to build their business and earn income.
A major strength of the franchise is the company’s own award-winning City & Guilds and CITB approved training centre in West Drayton where aqua-lec franchisees undergo an intensive training programme of up to 12 weeks, leading to an NVQ qualification. Courses are modular and tailored to franchisees’ individual skills.
As part of the gas-elec group, the aqua-lec plumber can offer a range of complementary home safety services, for example access to a Part P competent electrician registered to work in a ‘wet’ environment such as wiring-in a new shower. Other services include Fire Risk Assessments, Legionella testing, home health checks, energy surveys and inspection reports to prepare the homeowner for the forthcoming Home Information Pack.

- Carol Otway - recruitment, development and support management of the group’s 100+ franchisees
The investment
Total investment required: £22,350 incl. the franchisee fee of £14,000.
The franchise fee allows franchisees to:
- operate the franchise business & system in their area
- use the trade name & trade mark
- use aqua-lec stationery and other copyrighted marketing material
- provide the services from their aqua-lec vehicle within the approved territory
The balance of the investment pays for specialised technical training, equipment, tools and branded workwear.
